My First Panorama Image

Today, I tried to stitch together my first panorama image, and I must say I am a little proud of myself. The panorama image shows about 180 degrees and consists of 8 pictures. All you have to do is to take a tripod, take a picture, turn the camera around so that you always have a big enough connection to the previous picture (an overlap of 20% to 30% is recommended) and then take the next one.

Then, use a software like Hugin to stitch them together. Be sure to also download Autopano (or Autopano-Sift) and Enblend, for Hugin makes use of them.

I had to correct the perspective with Paint Shop Pro X afterwards because the horizon was somehow crooked… although I had the feeling I did not move the camera other than horizontally… whatever, I still like the result.

  • I found out that you can correct the perspective already within Hugin, but I think I will have to read some more tutorials before I know how to manage that.
  • A nice place to put your panorama images so that everybody can view them as an interactive flash movie is viewat.org.

I managed to do a better one:

Panorama Pic - Second Try

The interesting thing is that one of the persons - the woman slightly right from the center - moved while I was taking the 8 shots, so she actually appears twice:

Person B = Person A

I stitched together a new panorama image:

From now on, all my panorama images can be seen on my flickr account.
