Windows Explorer Does Not Refresh Window Content

Whenever I add a file or folder in Windows Explorer (XP), it is added at the end of all files – although I want to have them automatically sorted by name. Even pressing F5 for a refresh does not work. The only possibility is “View -> Sort Items -> By Name” (I am using the German Windows, so it might be named differently in English).

Does anyone know how to make it auto-refresh the content?

I found some posts which say one should change the DWORD called “UpdateMode” under the registry path

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Update].

Some say it has to be “00000001″, some say “00000000″.

Both do not seem to work for me…

That registry DWORD has nothing to do with the auto-refresh of the file and folder list in Windows Explorer.

You can read about what that DWORD actually does here: http://www.microsoft.com/techn.....x?mfr=true

    Try this instead:

Well, thanks, I tried the registry patch, but I don’t think anything has changed. Tried unzipping a file into a folder – the folder was put at the end of the list, and even F5 didn’t change a thing. I had to go for the menu (sort by name) again to make it work.

Maybe I have to download that hotfix, but there are two of them there, and I don’t know which one to choose.
