@Max: Sorry, I found no other solution than logging in to my webhost account and using a tool that sets back the file permissions on the 'flickr-cache' folder with all containing files and folders. Then I could empty that folder manually via FTP (which is pretty annoying).

IMHO, creating the user "wwwrun" will definitely not help - tell me if you had success, which I doubt. It is a 'how the webhost has configured the servers' problem, if I recall correctly.

I am not using that plugin any longer, anyway.

Hey I noticed you are having the same problem I am - I can't delete the flickr-cache. Did you ever get to the bottom of it?

Could you create the user called: “wwwrun" perhaps and then login with that user profile and delete the problem folder?

I might give it a go.

Hi peteg!

Thanks for the hint, but I used exactly THAT plugin and it was causing trouble - see this post. ;-)

Sounds like you gave up on this, but I found your post today because I was having conflicts with the lightboxJS plugin and another plugin. I unistalled lightboxJS and installed this version of lightbox:

http://stimuli.ca/lightbox/

It solved my conflict...perhaps this will help your situation too.
