RSS Feeds: Using And Integrating FeedBurner Into WP
Posted By Marco On June 3, 2007 @ 18:12 In WordPress Stuff | No Comments
If you already have a WordPress blog, you might know that there is a certain standard called RSS , which is basically a web feed format based on XML. It contains your latest posts (either the full post or a summary of each post) which your visitors can subscribe to with their feed reader, so that they will always get your latest posts even without regularly visiting your website.
Using WordPress, you will find your post feed at yourblog/feed/ – or, if it’s the comment feed, yourblog/comments/feed/. But that is kind of it – if you want to get more out of your feeds, you need some additional tools or services to help you out.
Now, that’s where FeedBurner comes into play. After opening an account, you can add your feeds, and from then on, you have different options like Feed Stats and Site Stats, and you can even use some options to optimize and publicize your feeds. Considering that RSS feeds are used very often to check out your website’s content, this service comes in very handy to make the most out of your blog.
The problem with WordPress is that you’d have to redirect the URLs provided above so that they go through FeedBurner in the future. Well, that’s why there is the nice FeedBurner FeedSmith plugin for WordPress: just type in the FeedBurner source of your (post and/or comment) feed, and the rest will be done automatically.
So, what’s still keeping YOU from burning your feeds?
