“Last Days” By Gus Van Sant
I must say that I was very excited when I heard that Gus Van Sant has produced a movie about the last days of Kurt Cobain in 2005. Considering Nirvana – and especially Kurt Cobain – as one of my biggest musical inspirations, I wanted to see that movie in the cinema, but I can’t remember that it was shown here in Germany. So, I decided to wait until it was published on DVD.
So, last Friday was the day that I finally saw it – and what is there to say about the movie? Well, either I have totally no access to an art movie, or – what I believe to be more probable – this movie sucks!
Basically, there is nothing happening in this movie! There are a lot of long shots which are actually showing nothing at all, just a person mumbling, sitting around, walking through the garden, playing some music, changing clothes. And then there are some other persons around the house that make no sense to me at all…
This was the first movie that I almost decided to turn off after 15 minutes of watching – but I thought I had to give it a chance, so I watched the whole movie – I must admit: I used the fast forward button on my DVD remote control quite often.
Well, I guess you should see the movie yourself. Maybe you like it – and maybe, just maybe you might come to the same conclusion here that the movie is not worth being watched.
You can get some more information about the movie on e.g. imdb.com.
I have gathered some movie reviews here, so that you can draw your own picture.
