I cannot quite recall the day when I setup WordPress and activated Akismet for the first time… well, according to the date of my first post, it must have been around August 6th, 2006.Akismet has so far caught 5,150 spam comments - that’s about 570 spam comments per month! I have noticed a recent increase in receiving spam comments, mostly from the IP 81.95.146.227 (whois) - seems to be a misconfigurated Apache there.

Normally, I wouldn’t bother and let Aksimet do what it does best. But since I have just recently installed the WP plugin Popularity Contest, I have to reset the counter for comments, trackbacks and pingbacks every now and then, because the spam attacks also effect the values of the most popular posts.

I have written an email to the abuse-section of the IP shown above, and all of a sudden: no more spam from that IP. Nice!

He thanks for the post about that ip-x.x.146.227. I got about 125 comments from them is the last day or two. I am just getting things set up to start blogging in earnest. In short thanks for putting something up. I think I’ll install askimet.

    Thanks
    Dan
