Recently, I decided to tag my posts in addition to the WP categories. Looking for a decent plugin, you will automatically end up on Christine’s weblog and her “Ultimate Tag Warrior” plugin for WP.

So, I installed it today, but I found out that it was not working properly with WP 2.1.3. I had some issues with the rewrites for the tags. I wanted them to be used as “/tag/tagname/”, but it didn’t work – I always got a 404 error. This seems to be a known issue. Also, there seem to be some problems of “tags being eaten up by comment actions” – whatever that means.

I have just deactivated it and decided to wait for a version compatible with WP 2.1.3.

Anyway, this seems to be a great plugin, as the feedback is very good and numerous.

Believe it or not: I convinced the UTW plugin to work with my WP 2.1.3! Just updating the permalink structure (even without any changes) did it. After the activation, the search did not work, but commenting out two lines in the plugin code made it work again! So, I guess I will be busy tagging all my old posts…

I just found out that Christine announced the end of UTW on June 30th, already. There has been an update to the final version, though, which includes some bug fixes and can be downloaded from the official download site shown above (also, read this post).
