Multiple Blogs In WordPress?

I just wondered if it is possible to create a normal WP-page which only shows posts of a specific category. The category and its posts should neiter be displayed on the main site nor in the navigation sidebar. So, it would be possible to have kind of a multiple blog in just one wordpress installation.

I came up with an idea here which would include some manual template editing – but as I do not want to completely destroy my blog by doing so in the first place all by myself (–> beginner), I posted it to the WP support forum to let the experts have a look at it first.
