Last week I felt very sleepy and I could hardly keep my eyes open for three whole days. As soon as I came home from work, I went to bed and fell asleep instantly.

So I thought it would be best to go and see the doctor… and what was the result? He said I was suffering from a carbon monoxide intoxication because of an exaggerated consumption of tobacco (i.e. cigarettes)!

I had to breathe into some kind of tube, and the results were 3 times higher than what a “normal” smoker would have had. The doctor said that if you’d give the same amount of carbon monoxide that I had in my blood to a non-smoker, he would fall into a coma and may suffer from a severe brain damage.

I am only smoking up to 20 cigarettes a day. How is that possible?

The doctor had an explanation: he said I seem to have the seldom “gift” to extract the same amount of toxic elements from 20 cigarettes where others need 50… wow, lucky me. :’-(

My blood results were all superb… I am in perfectly good shape.

Why do I destroy this on purpose?

For the future, this means that I will either have to restrict my tobacco consumption strongly or to completely stop smoking - I hope I will get that far so that I can stay away from nicotine & co in the future. I perfectly manage not to drink alcohol (and I don’t miss it)… so why doesn’t it work with tobacco?

I went to see the doctor again today to discuss my blood values (they’re almost perfect) and made that carbon monoxide test again. This time the values were normal, thank God.

I managed to smoke less. But my blood pressure is still too high. I hope it’s not chronic.

If I could only stop smoking at once… in situations like these, a smoker comprehends how addicted he is (physically or mentally, that doesn’t make a big difference regarding the results).
