I bought the new DJ Shadow album “Outsider” yesterday, September 17th - and what can I say? I was a little suprised when I listened to it the first time in my car stereo. HipHop and Rap songs on a DJ Shadow album?

I was really confused… where had all the dirty drum and spheric synthie sounds gone that I love DJ Shadow for - like on “Endtroducing”? Is that “the new DJ Shadow”?

Don’t get me wrong: I also listen to HipHop and Rap songs and I like that kind of music, too… but it is not what I expect from DJ Shadow - I expect broken rhythms with a dirty drum sound, speech samples, spheric synthie sounds that create a typical DJ Shadow mood.

OK, you fortunately get that in the second half of the album… luckily, “The Tiger” (track 12) is a DJ Shadow masterpiece that compensates enough for the first half of the album and makes it OK to buy.

    Summary:
I am not that happy with “Outsider”… in my opinion, “Endtroducing” is still the best DJ Shadow album.
